The data

Is DOT letting data public?

Yes. Where each DOT publishes it, what's in a proposal, and why reading it is the hard part.

Yes. Every state DOT publishes its lettings so contractors can bid on them. LeadSifter works from the same documents anyone can download. We don't have special access, and we don't need it.

Where each DOT publishes it

WisDOT, Iowa DOT and MnDOT each post their lettings on their own websites, on their own schedules.

What's in a proposal

Each proposal is one project. It includes the plans, the special provisions, the schedule of items with quantities, and any addenda issued before the letting. A single letting holds 40 to 55 proposals, and each one runs dozens to hundreds of pages.

Why reading it is the hard part

The data is public, but it isn't organized for suppliers. The quantities you care about sit in a schedule of items in the middle of the proposal, or in the notes on a plan sheet, under the DOT's item names instead of yours. Finding them means reading every page of every proposal, every month. That's the job LeadSifter does.
